SENIOR SECTION WON BY

The finals of the senior, intermediate, and junior championships of Harwood Golf Club were played in difficult, conditions over 36 holes during the weekend. A north-easterly gale, accompanied by a driving rain, centinued all day, but in spite of this the golf was of a high standard in all three grades. SENIOR The senior championship, final between L, W. Fleetwood and J- L- Blair was won by Fleetwood. 3 and 2. after a close and Interesting match. Blair took 37. (standard scratch score) to Fleetwood s 38, to be 1 up at the ninth, and coming home in 38. to Fleetwood’s 39, was 2 up ***■ H' n £7' Blair's score was 75 and Fleetwood s 7V the standard scratch score being 74. Hi the first nine holes in the afternoon, Fleetwood took 37 to Blair’s 42. Fleetwood being 2 up at the twenty-seventh. Blair won the twenty-eighth and the thirtythird, but Fleetwood won the thirty-first, thirty-second, and thirty-fourth, to win the match. 3 and 2. INTERMEDIATE In the intermediate championship, C. G. Penlington beat G. K. Malcolmson, 4 and 3. after an interesting game in which the players’ fortunes fluctuated. PenTington completed the first nine holes in 39 to Malcolmson's 45, to be 5 up, but Malcolmson fought back, and in the second nine holes won six, to be 1 down at lunch. The golf continued to be good in the afternoon round. Penlington taking 41 to Malcolmson’s 44 for the first nine holes,- to be 5 up at the twenty-seventh. Penlington won the twenty-eighth, but lost the thirtieth and .thirty-first. , However. Penlington won the next two holes in par figures to take the match. 4 and 3. JUNIOR In the junior championship, H. M. Taylor beat C. Haigh, 3 and 1. At the end of the first nine holes, Taylot- was 6 up but Haigh, fighting back, reduced his opponent’s lead to 4 up at lunch. The next nine holes made no alteration .to the score, Taylor being still 4 up at the twenty-seventh. Taylor increased his lead to 5 up at the twenty-ninth; he-then lost the thirtieth, but won. the thirty-firet to be dormy 5 up, Haigh won the next three holes, but struck a patch of trouble at the thirty-fifth. to Ukg ~- 'i'"** l 'll

RUSSLEY CLUB

The second qualifying round ,of the club championships was played °n the Russley golf links on Saturday in conjunction with stroke handicaps.’There was a large entry of players.
