ROTATIONAL JOB CONDITIONS
DISSATISFACTION OF
WORKERS
MASS MEETING TO BE HELD SOON
Dissatisfaction with the wages and conditions of work on rotational jobs covered by the Public Works Department's workers' agreement was expressed at a largely-attended meeting of delegates held under the auspices of the Unemployed Workers' Movement. More than 450 men were represented by the delegates. It was stated that a mass meeting would be held in a fortnight. . A resolution was carried, amending slightly the men's claims to bring tK into conformity with those of the New Zealand General Labourers' Federation, which has interested itself in the wages and conditions of subsidised workers. It was also reported that the Canterbury Distnct Trades Council had referred the matter to its National Council meeting next week. Complaints were made at the meeting of the hardships allegedly caused by the Public Works Departments practice of making deferred payments and holding several days wages in hand. It was agreed that the circular recently issued by the department about the computation of time on a "wet and dry" payment basis provided no satisfactory solution of the rotational workers' grievances.
