THE SPANISH SITUATION
TO THE IDITOB OE THE PRESS. Sir, —In your sub-leader to-day under this heading you apparently blame Italy for Franco’s delay in accepting the plan for evacuation of foreign volunteers. You also reveal, what has not appeared in your news columns, that the Pyrenees frontier is still open. Might it not be France that is to blame? Since men and matenals are passing over the Pyrenees to Barcelona, no wonder Franco finds difficulty in following up his successes, and no wonder he is not very willing to dispense with his foreign volunteers.—Yours, etc., . G. F. SEWARD. Lincoln, August 17, 1938. [We did not say that the Pyrenees frontier was open. Nor is it open. —Ed., .“The Press."]
