REVOLT IN CRETE
CAPITAL SEIZED BY REBELS
GREEK GOVERNMENT SENDS TROOPS
HOPE TO CONFINE OUTBREAK
(UNITED PRESS A.BSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.) (Received July 30, 1 a.m.) ATHENS. July 29. A revolt has broken out in Crete. The Government hurriedly sent strong armed forces to suppress it. Four hundred armed rebels seized the capital last night General J. Metaxas (Prime Minister of Greece) issued a proclamation stating that the revolt was confined t® Crete and exhorting the rest of Greece to keep calm. The leaders in the revolt include M. Mitsotakis, a former Minister for National Economy, who is a nephew of M. Venizelos, and also a former Mayor, M. Canea. The rebels have so far met with little resistance, but the dictatorship claims that it has sent sufficient aeroplanes and troops to quell the outbreak in a day or two.
