COMPROMISE NOT WANTED

Sudeten German Attitude

BRITISH INTERVENTION CRITICISED

(OTITIS PUSS ASSOCUTIOI—COPTIIOHT.) (Received July 29, 8.30 p.m.) PRAGUE, July 29. Abandoning its previous attitude of friendly reserve towards Lord Runciman, who has been appointed mediator between the Sudeten Germans and the Czechoslovak Government, the Sudeten German official newsletter says: “Great Britain is trying to prevent the impending battle of ideologies by advocating a compromise which cannot produce a fundamental decision. It would be unfair to create personal difficulties for Lord Runciman, who has nobly undertaken his task, but it is clear that the gap between the Sudeten Germans and the Czech Government’s conceptions has become so wide that it is no longer humanly possible to bridge it.” The Henlein party has received from the Czechoslovak Government the reform proposals. LORD RUNCIMAN’S MISSION LONG DURATION EXPECTED (Received July 29, 7.30 p.m.) LONDON, July 29.' Lord Runciman, who has been appointed mediator in the dispute between the Sudeten Germans and the Czechoslovak Government, without delay will submit proposals to Dr. M. Hodza (Prime Minister of Czechoslovakia) and Herr Konrad Henlein (leader of the Sudeten Germans). He is expected to remain in Czechoslovakia over a long period to judge the working out of any proposals submitted. He will be accompanied by the Foreign Office economic expert, Mr F. T. A. Ashton-Gwatkin, well known as the novelist, “John Paris.” HITLER’S GUEST HERR HENLEIN GOING TO SPORTS FESTIVAL (Received July 29, 10 p.m.) LONDON, July 29. The Berlin correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says that Herr Konrad Henlein (leader of the Sudeten Germans) will be Herr Hitler’s guest at the Reich sports gymnastic festival at Breslau on July 31, at which Herr Hitler is expected to speak.
