SMITHFIELD PRICES LAMB MARKET FIRMER (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON. July 29. The tendency of the London lamb market is firm for first quality, with second quality slow and irregular. Wethers and ewes are easier because of heavier supplies and slow trade. The chilled beef market has been easier this week, also because of heavier supplies. The New Zealand porker pig trade is slow, with light-weights slightly easier. New Zealand baconer pigs are quiet and unchanged. The New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board advises that the following are the ruling prices of wholesale quantities of the descriptions of frozen meat mentioned and are for representative parcels of the goods, sold on Thursday, July 28. Chilled beef prices are averages ot the week on which this list is issued. All prices are on the basis of delivered to Smithfield market (previous prices are also shown):—

COMPARISON WITH OTHER COUNTRIES New Zealand’s shipments of lamb to the United Kingdom in the first half of July totalled 264,600 carcases —169,542 carcases more than the shipments from her nearest competitor, Australia. The Dominion’s shipments of mutton were 87,094 carcases—44,349 carcases more than Australia sent. The meat exports to the United Kingdom from Australia, South America, and South Africa, received by the Meat Producers’ Board by cable from London, together with New Zealand’s shipments, are shown in the following figures:—
