THE PLACEMENT SERVICE

REPORT FOR WEEK WORK FOUND FOR TWENTYNINE MEN The placements of men in work for the week in private employment totalled 29, of which 23 were permanent. The placements were varied. The weather has interfered with the call for farm workers, though five placements were effected, including a married couple, according to the Placement Officer’s report. Confirmation was received from the District Registrar of Apprentices for 10 adult apprentices in the carpentering trade, all under the Government’s subsidised scheme. The interest in the subsidised scheme in the carpentry, joinery, and bricklaying trades is maintained, but mainly carpentry. It ean be stated that more interest is now being shown by employers than has been the case since the scheme’s inception. Employers have the right to nominate any particular young man they have been in contact with. At present this office has a large number of particularly bright and intelligent young men from the ages of 18 to 25 years, who are desirous of employment, not only in the trades subsidised by the Government, but also in trades and callings of every description, including all branches of the electrical and engineering trades. Many of those seeking positions are continuing their studies at various colleges. Youths under 18 years of age register with the vocational guidance officer who is now located in new offices in “The Press’’ building. Cathedral square.
