RUGBY UNION IN SENIOR GRADE ONLY

CROSS-COUNTRY RACE AT HALS WELL

If the weather and the state of the playing fields will allow, play wilj be advanced a further stage in sports competitions this afternoon. The Canterbury Rugby Union announced last evening that games in all grades below senior had been postponed because of the condition of grounds, but the senior matches will continue according to the draw. The programme for the afternoon includes games in all codes. There will also be held one of the major events of the crosscountry season, the Halswell race. Two of the leading teams, Linwood and Air Force, will meet in the principal Rugby Union game on the oval at Lancaster Park. Other senior fixtures are: Sydenham v. Athletic, Rugby Park; Christchurch v. University, Lancaster Park south; Albion v. Sunnyside. Show Grounds No. 1; Technical v. Oid Boys. Show Grounds No. 2. Association Games Alterations to the Canterbury Football Association’s draw for to-day are as follows:—Western v. Rangers senior game will be played on Hagley No. 4 at 2.45 p.m. instead of at English Park at 1.30 p.m. Y.M.C.A. senior reserve has defaulted to St. Albans. The Canterbury Rugby League’s senior matches will be: Linwood v. Rakaia, at Rakaia; Hornby v. Sydenham, at Monica Park; Addington v. Waimairi, at Papanui. The Halswell cross-country race, to start from the Halswell Hall, has drawn an entry of 18 teams. The racij will be divided into A, B. and junior grades. The senior athletes will race over a course of 6\ miles. The senior men’s hockey draw provides for games as follows: Sydenham v. University, Burwood No. 1; Redciifls v. Trinity, Burwood No. 2; and Selwyn v. Technical, Burwood No. 3. Only senior games will be played. Senior women’s hockey matches only will be played. They are to be held at North Hagley Park.

Miss Maynard Hall, popularly known throughout New Zealand as “Aunt P t” of 3YA, who will terminate her engagement with the National Broadcasting Service to-day after Hi years service in charge of the childrens hour at 3YA. will be given a public farewell at the Civic Theatre from 5 to 6 o'clock this evening. This will take the form of a special children s session in which almost every one if her assistants —the cousins, aunts and uncles of radiolapd—since the hour was first established, will contribute a novel programme. Opportunity will bo taken during the session to make her a presentation as some recognition of the great work she has carried out during her regime at 3YA, not only over the air, but personally among children in homes, hospitals, and sanatoria.
