KILLED BY SKID IN SNOW

CONTRACTOR STRUCK BY • MOTOR-LORRY (russ AMOCIATIOII TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, July 29. Struck by a motor-lorry which skidded in the snow near National Park station this afternoon, a middleaged man who was standing in front of a stationary vehicle on the road was killed instantly. The victim was Harold le Prou, aged 38, a married contractor of National Park. The accident occurred on the Tokaanu road between the station and the Egmont Box Factory mill. Le Prou was driving from the mill to the station when he was involved in a collision with a motor-car driven by Brian Wilson, of the Native Lands Department, Hokianga, who was on his way to the mill. The occupant of the car, R. R. G. Searle, of Kohukohu, received head injuries and was removed to the Chateau Tongariro. His condition is not serious. , . . Le Prou, who was not injured in the collision, stepped out of his lorry and was standing in front of the radiator when another truck driven by ms brother, Basil le Prou, rounded the bend in the road. Seeing the two vehicles on the road, Basil Le Prou applied his brakes with the result that his lorry skidded and the back portion struck his brother, Harold le Prou, who was pinned against the front of his own lorry and was killed. Four white coffins in two hearses caused traffic to be halted in the city streets to-day for the funeral of the victims of the harbour tragedy, Mrs Vera Lawson and her three young children. , , St. Matthew's Church was crowded for the service. WELLINGTON, July 29. Shortly after 10 o’clock to-day a car was struck by a train at Melhng. The occupants, Mr J. J. Reich, aged about t 7 w ho was driving, and Mrs Reich, were both taken to hospital at Lower Hutt with severe shock and other injuries. Reich is well known m business circles and is one of the oldest members of the Wellington Bowlins Club. Late last night the condition of both Mr and Mrs Reich was reported to be satisfactoxy.
