ROYAL MUSICAL SOCIETY
WEDNESDAY’S PROGRAMME
On Wednesday, August 3, the Royal Christchurch Musical Society, conducted by Ernest Jenner, will give a programme of choral and instrumental works in the Radiant Hall at 8 p.m. After three items for chorus and orchestra by Handel, there will a series of works by the all too rarely heard Italian composers Respighi, Pizzetti, Perosi, and Castelnuovo-Ted-esco, and in addition songs by the early Italians Monteverde and Scarlatti. The Motets for chorus and strings by Pizzetti and Perosi, and the Respighi Sonata for violin and piano (to be played by Gladys Vincent and Ernest Jenner) are beautiful works. In the second half of the programme the society will repeat a work which proved so popular last year, Thiman’s “The High Tide.” The soloists at this concert will be Miss Millicent Jennings, Miss Dorothy Roberts, Miss Gladys Vincent, Mr Clive Hindle, and Mr Francis Bate. The society’s choristers will make their first appearance at this concert, and will occupy the front row. These choristers are girls between the ages of 15 and 21 years, and next year it is hoped that they will contribute items, accompanied by a junior orchestra.
