PAYMENT OF PENSIONS
USE OF CHEQUES SUGGESTED [From Our Parliamentary Reporter.J WELLINGTON. July 28. The desirability of making pennons payment by way of cheque was raised in the House of Renresentatives .oday by Mr A. C. A. Sexton (Government, Franklin), in giving notice of a question addressed to the Minister for Pensions (the Hon. W. E. Parry*. The Minister was asked bv Mr Sexton' to consider cheque payments, instead of requiring pensioners to attend personally at post offices to receive their pensions in cash. "At present pensioners who are unable to attend personally may appoint ?i?? Nt ?. to collect their pensions for tnftm, said Mr Sexton, "so that the safeguard of personal identification is a iT eac l y lost in such cases. Further, attendance of large numbers of pensioners at post offices within'the space or a day or two in each month nlaccs an undue strain on both the staffs ani counter accommodation of offices."
