ENTRIES FROM EIGHT CLUBS
DEBATING FEDERATION'S COMPETITIONS Eight clubs have entered teams in the four sections of the Christchurch Debating Federation's annual competitions, to* be held during the week-end. The clubs are the Returned Soldiers' Association, the New Brighton Workers* Educational Association, the Post Office, the Christchurch Workers' Educational Association. St. Mary's, Marist Brothers, St. Bede's, and Awatea. There will be contests in oratory, judged by Mr R. Twyneham, debating (Messrs A. C. Brassington and P. P. J. Amodeo), elocution (Mrs J. P. O Sullivan) and impromptu speaking (Dr. A. L. Haslam). . Mr H. D. Acland (president of the Christchurch Workers' Educational Association) will open the competitions to-morrow evening, when the oratory contest will be decided. The debates will be held on Sunday morning and afternoon, the elocutionary contest in the afternoon and the impromptu speeches in the evening. The challenge shield for the club with the highest aggregate of points and certificates for individual speakers will be presented at a dance on Monday evening. The competitions are open to the public.
