OFFICIAL FORECASTS fTHE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, July 28. The weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office. Wellington and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Moderate to. strong southerly winds, decreasing during Friday. Weather cold and changeable with paasing showers at many places, bnt gradually improving. Temperatures cold, with some frosts. Seas, rather rough to rough. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Light to moderate southerly winds. Weather fair to fine. Temperatures cold with some frosts. Seas, slight to moderate. DOMINION The Dominion forecast is:— Weather mainly fair to cloudy in western districts from Taranaki southwards; elsewhere changeable with passing showers, but improving gradually to-morrow. A little snow probable on the high levels. Temperatures cold. The recent depression is now centred east of the North Island. An anti-cyclone of slight intensity covers the western Tasman, Winds —South-westerly in the far north, elsewhere south-easterly to southerly. Moderate to strong generally, and in places reaching gale force, but decreasing to-morrow. Seas (New Zealand waters) —Moderate south of Farewell Spit; elsewhere rather rough to rough. Eastern Tasman Sea—Moderate to strong southerly winds and rough seas, but conditions gradually moderating. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather in Christchurch yesterday was mainly fine, but overcast. There were occasional showers of rain and a cold wind blew from the southwest. The maximum temperature was 47.1 degrees. At 1 o'clock this morning the sky was cloudy and a light south-west wind was blowing. The temperature was 37 degrees. The barometer, rising, registered 294$ inches Meteorological observations taken at the Magnetic Observatory, Christchurch on July 28: — 9 a.m. 3 p.m.

IN OTHER PLACES Auckland—Heavy rain until the late morning was followed by overcast but fine weather for the remainder of the day. The wind was fresh from the south-west. The maximum temperature was 59 degrees. The barometer was exceptionally low in the morning, but began to recover, the reading at 5 p.m. being 29.35 inches. Wellington—Cold and changeable, with occasional very light showers and a strong southerly breeze. The minimum temperature on Wednesday night was 45.7 degrees. The maximum yesterday was 49.0. At 3 p.m. the barometer reading was 29.451. Dunedin—Dull, wet weather, with some heavy showers in the morning was experienced yesterday. There was a light breeze from the southeast in the afternoon. The maximum temperature was 49 degrees. The barometer rose to 29.85 inches.
