RADIO LISTENERS' LICENCES
TOTAL DOUBLED IN THREE YEARS Radio receivers' licences reached a record point on June 30 with a total of 292 969. The previous highest was on March 31, but the latest figures show that this total has been exceeded <by 8807. The gain for the year is 37,697 licences, or 14.7 per cent. Receivers' licences on June 30 were distributed as follows: Wellington .. .. 104,859 Auckland .. .. 93,984 Canterbury 54,119 Otago .. .. 40,007 Total .. .. 292,969 The advance has been most marked in Wellington, with more than 13,000 additional licences, while Auckland' shows an additional 12,000, Canterbury more than 7000, and Otago 5000 more compared with a year ago. In addition to the receivers' licences, there are 1213 dealers', 1033 experimental, 830 free to blind persons, schools, and hospitals, making, with other classes of licences, a grand total of 296,065. Listeners' licences have more than doubled since January, 1935.
