AUCKLAND SHOP WORKERS . FAIL TO VOTE (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, July 27. Because the recent ballot to decide whether the Auckland Amalgamated Society of Shop Assistants should affiliate with the New Zealand Labour Party did not bring a four-fifths majority the resolution to do so. has failed. Out of a total membership of 4437 only 1437 voted on the issue. Tim ballot papers were opened tonight" by the scrutineers, who after counting and checking, reported the following result: —In favour of affiliation, 718; against, 713; informal, 6; total 1437.
