MAILS TO ENGLAND

TO THE EDITOR OP THE PRESS. Sir, —Can you inform me, if a letter addressed to England with the new increased postage rate affixed, will be sent by steamer along with secondclass mail matter if the name of the vessel and route is stated on the envelope? I think the public should have the privilege of sending by whichever route they prefer.—Yours, etc., SAFETY BEFORE SPEED. July 26. 1938, [Commenting on this letter, the Chief Po.-tmaster (Mr F. W. Furby) says: “With the operation of the new postage rate (lid a half-ounce) in conjunction with" the Empire air-mail scheme, as from July 26, 1938, all letters and postcards for England will be sent by air-mail. Only secondclass matter (parcels, packets, newspapers, etc) for dispatch to England will be sent by surface means.”]
