PUERTO RICO TROUBLES

National extremists attempted, without success, to assassinate the Governor (MajorGeneral Blanton Winship) during a fete on the fprtieth anniversary of the American occupation of Puerto Rico. Several men and women were injured. Puerto Rico was ceded by Spain to the United States by the treaty of December 10, 1898, which was ratified on April 11, 1880.
