THE FOURTH TEST
Australia’s Brilliant Win
The fourth pricket. test .match between Australia and- England at Leeds was notable more for fine bowling on both-sides than for batting, and it was surprising indeed , for the match to be completed in three days. Both of the opening test matches had had to be left drawn after four days’ play. The third was abandoned without a ball being
bowled’ Australia, by its five-wickets victory over England, has placed itself in a strong as only one match remains to be played, and the : best; England can. do is to finish the series on even, terms. The match-winning bowlers for Australia were W. J. O’Reilly and L. O’B. Fleetwood-Smith, who were; largely responsible for the dismissal of England for the low totals of 223 and 123. K. C.. Fames bowled splendidly for England in Australia’s first innings. W. R. Hammond and D. G. Bradman, the' captains, played fine innings for their respective teams, the latter scoring his third century of the test match series. The last day’s play was most exciting, and the Australians lacing possible defeat, brilliantly dismissed the whole of the English team and without a great deal of difficulty scored the runs necessary for victory.
