BUDDHISTS AND MOSLEMS AT VARIANCE
REPORTED DISTURBANCES IN RANGOON RANGOON, July 26. One policeman was killed and 22 Indians, 11 Burmese, and eight policemen were injured in riots between Buddhists and Moslems as a result of the publication of a book, which, was said to be insulting to Buddhists. The Yorkshire Light Infantry, armed with machine-guns, is standing by and a cordon has been placed round the riot area. The situation is under control. Ten thousand leaflets in the vernacular, Signed by the Prime Minister and the Home Minister, appeal to the public for peacefulness. A Gazette proscribing the offensive book is being issued in the -morning.
