GOOD SUPPORT FOR ACTIVITIES
HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY AT NEW BRIGHTON The spring show showed an increase in entries, the summer show was a great success, and the annual garden competitions were well supported by members, an entry of 18 gardens making the task of the judges very difficult, said the report presented at the annual meeting of the New Brighton Horticultural Society last evening. Mr J. S. Ainsworth presided. The financial statement showed a credit balance of £1 11s 2d, with assets £22 10s 2d, and no liabilities. Mr Ainsworth, in speaking, paid a tribute to the work of the secretary (Mr B. H. Dean) and the treasurer (Mr A. E. Beardsley). An addition was made to the rules providing for the election of life members. The election of officers resulted:— Patrons, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, the Mayor of New Brighton (Mr E. L. Smith); president, Mr. J. S. Ainsworth: vice-presidents, Messrs J. N. Clarke. L. W. Hudson, Mrs A. Brooks; secretary. Mr B. H. Dean; treasurer. Mr A. E. Beardsley: auditor, Mr A. R. Watson; solicitor. Mr C. V. Lester; management committee, Messrs C. Chapman, W. Watts. W. Carpenter, Mesdames R. Goodland and C. March.
