BRITAIN’S REQUIREMENT FROM ITALY MR CHAMBERLAIN QUESTIONED IX COMMONS (BRITISH OFFICIAL BIHMSSj RUGBY. July 25The “settlement in Spain.” which is attached as a condition for the bringing into operation of the Borne agreements, was again the subject of questions in the House of Comm The Prime Minister (Mr Chamberlain) gave a negative answer to a. question whether, during the negotiations, the British and Italian representatives came to an understanding on what was implied by the phrase, but he mentioned, in another reply, that the «m----clusion of the agreements there had been a confidential exchange ot views between the two Governments on the subject. . *Mf Chamberlain declared, however that he had never committed himself to a complete, or even a partial, definition of the phrase. A Labour member inquired, u Italy was, therefore, as much in the dark sm to the intentions of Britain as, acceding to this member, the House of Commons was. Mr Chamberlain said: I do not know whether that is so or not. X do not know>their state of mmd. Mr Wedgwood Benn asked if the position was that during the recess Mr Chamberlain would be at liberty to implement the agreements by putting his own interpretation on a settlement. _ Mr Chamberlain replied that there was no change in the situation, and Britain was entitled to interpret the condition which it itself had imposed. Further pressed by the Opposition, Mr Chamberlain recalled hi* answer some days ago, in which ha said he did not exclude the possibility that the House of Commons might be called together to consider the matter. NORWEGIAN STEAMER RELEASED EXAMINATION OF CARGO MADE AT CEUTA GIBRALTAR. July 25. The rebel authorities have released the Norwegian steamer Kittybrovig, which was taken to Ceuta on July 23 for an examination of its cargo. The Norwegian steamer Tirranna has advised that she was bombed west of Tangier on July 23.
