OFFICIAL FORECASTS [THE PRESS Special Service.! WELLINGTON, July 26. The weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office,, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows; — Moderate to strong north-east-erly winds. Weather cloudy to overcast, and misty with some rain. Temperatures moderate to mild. Seas rather rough to rough. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Strong north-easterly winds to gales. Weather dull, and rain probable with some heavy falls. Temperatures moderate to mild. Seas rather rough to rough, with a northerly swell. DOMINION The Dominion forecast is:— Weather fair to cloudy at first in eastern and southern districts of the South Island, elsewhere cloudy to overcast, with rain in western and northern districts, and becoming fairly general within 24 hours; some heavy falls probable, with flooding in parts of the North Island and northern districts of the South Island. Temperatures moderate to mild. An extensive and deep depression is located over the north central portion of the Tasman Sea. Pressure is still rather high to the cast of the South Island. Winds—East to north-east, light to moderate, but freshening south of Hokitika and Banks Peninsula, elsewhere moderate to strong generally, and reaching gale force in many places. Seas (New Zealand waters)— Rough to high north of East Cape, moderate south of Dunedin, elsewhere rather rough to rough. Eastern Tasman Sea—Strong northeast to northerly winds, to gales and rough to high seas.

Auckland—After a. strong easterly wind and a cloudy sky in the morning, steady rain began in the afternoon, and fell heavily for the remainder of the day. The maximum temperature was 56 degrees. The barometer fell sharply, the reading at 5 p.m. being 29.67 inches. Wellington—The weather yesterday was fine, but with an increasing amount of high cloud. In the afternoon a light to moderate east to northeast breeze blew. The maximum temperature was 52.3 degrees. At 3 o’clock yesterday afternoon the barometer reading was 29.90 inches.

Dunedin—There was again bright sunshine yesterday, but a north-east wind continued. The temperature did not rise above 49 degrees. The barometer fell to 30.00 inches.
