Electric fans are a feature of a new public telephone box being tested by the Postmaster-General Department in Australia for greater comfort of patrons during the hot months. Of attractive design, the boxes are built of steel and special heat-resisting glass and are lined with sound-absorbing material. Experiments are being made also with a speaking clock to give callers the correct time, and consideration is being given to the installation of a robot-operated voice to say “Number engaged” in place of the buzzing signal.
