NEED FOR INCREASE IN POPULATION
RESOLUTION PASSED AT OAMARU (PRESS ASSOCIATION' TEI.EORAM.) OAMARU, July 26. A public meeting attended by 80 people was addressed by Mr Leigh Hunt last night and a resolution was passed drawing attention to the serious position of the Dominion because of the sparse population and “the imminent decline which is fraught with the gravest consequences.” The resolution urged the vital importance of all Parliamentarians and public men actively supporting the formulation of a long-range plan for the introduction of suitable migrants from Great Britain on a substantial scale, under planned and financed schemes, and that a Dominion conference. representative of all interests, be held not later than October for the purpose.
