INDEPENDENT NATIONAL CANDIDATE MR E. B. E TAYLOR TO OPPOSE SITTING MEMBER Mr E. B. E. Taylor, barrister and solicitor, of Greymouth, will contest the Westland seat at the forthcoming General Election, as an Independent Nationalist candidate, against the sitting member. Mr J. O’Brien (Labour). Mr Taylor, who will have the official support of the National Party exeeutive, will leave Greymouto on Ft day by aeroplane to attend a conference of the party at Wellington. . He had decided to offer his services after he, had been approachedbya deputation of businessmen, said Mr Taylor to-day. He had drawn up his policy, but would reserve details of i until he opens his campaign, m about two months’ time. - __ ' _ Born at Christchurch., Mr Taylor is 32 years of age, and is a son of Mi T E Taylor, a former member ot Barliamdtt for Christchurch North and a former Mayor of Christchurch, He was educated at the Christchurch Boys High School and Canterbury University College, where he secured ms Lb, B. degree. In 1930 he was admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court, and was employed m a iaw office in Christchurch for nV6 years For threfc years Mr Taylor traveiled in Canada, the United States, South America, England, and on the Continent, and. returned to England in 1934, in which year he came back to New ’Zealand and practised his profession at Taumarunui for three years. He arrived in Greymouth in April this year, and started to practise on his own acco.unt. > . Mr Taylor has taken a prominent part in sports. At the Boys' High School he was a member of the first fifteen, and at University was a successful distance runner. For five years he represented Canterbury in distance running, . gaining many titles. His mother is a well-known resident of Cashmere' Hills, Christchurch, and takes a leading part in social welfare work. She is also president of the PanPacific Women’s Conference.
