BOROUGH COUNCIL The Lyttelton Borough Council met last evening. There were present: The Mayor (Mr F. E. Sutton), Crs. G- Halliday, G. S. Morris, W. T. Lindsay. W. T. Foster, A. R. Mutton, J. D. Sargentina. Cr. R. Cairns arrived at a later stage of the meeting. Permission to hold a street day collection was granted to the New Zealand Society for the Protection at Women and Children. In reply to a request made fay the council for assistance in putting the Bridle path, on the Lyttelton side of the Summit road in order, the Hon. H T. Armstrong, Minister for Labour, wrote stating that his department would be prepared to consider making available, free of cost to the council, registered and unemployed men for the work. The Mayor said that an inspector from the Public Works Department had inspected the Bridle path and would report to the department. On the suggestion of the Mayor it was decided to hold over the matter in the meantime The Canterbury Employers’ Association wrote urging the council to join the association and stating that the council was practically the only local body which did not belong to the association. On the motion of Cr. Morris it was decided to join the association, Cr. Sargentina voting against the motion. The District Employment Officer. Mr W. Ross, wrote informing the council that full wages cost would be made available to the council for the employment of six men for a period of 17 weeks for the purpose of spreading soil on the council’s reclamation ground on the reclaimed land. The bad state of the old road passing through Diamond Harbour, connecting Purau and Charteris Bay. was the subject of a letter forwarded by the Mount Herbert County Council The letter stated that the road was rapidly becoming impassable, and if not improved in the near future. It would be necessary for stock to use the main highway. The council was requested to give the road the necessary attention. In reply to a question, the Borough Engineer (Mr H. H. Barnard) said the road was not in good order, but hj was in much better condition than the county’s own section of the road nearer Church Bay. It was decided to confer with the County Council on the proposed repairs. Cunningham Terrace Regulations for the control of vehicular traffic in Cunningham terrace were adopted by the Borough Council last night. A report was presented by Cr. A. R. Mutton and the Borough Traffic Inspector (Mr G. M. Daniel) on a proposal to regulate traffic in the terrace. After being read the report wa amended at the suggestion of the conn cil, and then adopted. The new regulations are: (1) Parking of vehicles, (a) all that portion of the road that lies between the eastern boundary of Mr T. Mahar's properly and the wogtern boundary of Mr J Sargentina’s property be declared a prohibited area, (b) all that portion of the road that lies to the western boundary of Mrs Robson’s property and the Bridle path be declared a prohibited area; (c) that the north side of the road between the western boundary of Mr Sargentina’s property and the western boundary of Mrs Robson’s property be declared a prohibited area from between 11.30 p.m. and 7 a.m. (2) One-way traffic. All vehicular traffic must enter the terrace from the western end and proceed eastward and down the Bridle path. Personal Captain A.
