SPORTS GROUND FOR COLLEGE

UNIVERSITY PLANS PURCHASE FAIRLY LARGE AREA NEAR CITY. The purchase of a fairly large area of land for use as a sports ground is being negotiated by the Canterbury University College Council. The land which the council hopes to obtain is a few miles from the centre of the city, and if present plans are successful will accommodate the full needs of the college for many years. The chairman of the college council, Mr C. T.,Aschman, said yesterday that negotiations for the land had not yet been completed, and it was therefore not possible to publish the details. It was also necessary for the council to have the permission of the Cabinet Minister concerned before the purchase was made. > He expected that these negotiations, if successful, would, be completed fairly soon.
