TRAFFICKING IN GAME BIRDS
RANGERS ASKED TO BE ALERT MINISTER’S THREAT OF COURT PROCEEDINGS (PBE3S ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, July 11. The statement that a fair amount of trafficking in game birds was going on in various parts of the Dominion was made by the Minister for Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry) today. “We are on the tracks of offenders,” he said, “and there seems a hope that Court proceedings will result. Ducks and pheasants are being packed up as poultry and sent to cities for clandestine sale at fancy prices, which they undoubtedly fetch when certain functions are being held. Rangers should keep their eyes skinned for these illegal traffickers.” ■ The Minister added that if trafficking in game birds existed, and there was any reliable evidence against offenders the Courts no doubt would view the offence serious’y. Commercialising game birds was certainly a most serious offence, and. he felt that more drastic measures should be enforced if the birds were to be conserved, as was the obvious intention of the law when it was passed.
