HOME ECONOMICS ASSOCIATION

MEETING OF COMMITTEE i The committee of the Home Economics Association met this week, with Mrs J. Richards presiding. ' It was decided to ask all members to subscribe to the memorial to Mrs E. R. McCombs. The members present handed in their‘contributions. It was reported that the appeal for members for the Needlecraft Circle had met with a good response, 28 joining. The circle will meet on the second and fourth Wednesdays in the month. To assist the circle a small sum was voted to its funds. Reporting on the drama circle, Miss Bowling thanked members for attending the recent dramatic entertainment. The New Zealand Committee of the Pan-Pacific Women’s Association ad Tj vised that its chairman. Miss Elsie Andrews, would be visiting Christchurch shortly, and on July 18 would address meetings and discuss preliminary organisation work for the fifth conference of the association to be held in New Zealand in 1940—the'flrst international conference of women to be held in New Zealand. Mrs Richards referred to the address to be given by Mr R. A. Falla, under the auspices of the Home Economics Association, to-morrow evening in the Navy League Hall, and expressed the hope that there would be a good attendance. GOLDEN WEDDING MR AND MRS JAMES POTTER ; Mr and Mrs James Potter (Cape road, Westport), who celebrated their golden wedding anniversary this week, received many messages of congratulations from their friends. For the last 30 years Mr and Mrs Potter have lived in the Buller district, where Mr Potter has been engaged in farming. Their wedding was celebrated at, Wellington 50 years ago. Mr Potter was bom at Mitta Mitta, Victoria, 76 years ago, and came to New Zealand when he was two years of age to make his home in Otago. For 30 years he worked for the Post and Telegraph Department. Mrs Potter vißs formerly Miss O’Conor, of Wellington. Mr and Mrs Potter have a large family, including Mesdames T. S. Martin (Hawera) and C. Downey (Murchison), who with their husbands were present at the celebration. NEW ZEALANDERS AT COURT (ronrxo raiiaa association —copraioar.) LONDON, July 5. New Zealanders who will be presented at Court on July 7, are: Mrs Arthur Jacob, Misses Patricia Jacob, Margaret Sims, Pamela Beauchamp, Joyce Galpin, Phillis Handyside, Joan Hellaby. DANCE AT SEDGEMERE In spite of cold weather a large number of guests enjoyed the hospitality of the bachelors and Spinsters of Sedgemere on the occasion of their annual ball. Excellent arrangements were made by a strong committee, with Mr C. A. Corbett as secretary. Music was played by Mr Colin Campbell’s orchestra, and extras by Mrs Lamble. Monte Carlo prizes were won by Miss Hilda Carter and Mr D. Sheehan, and the masters of ceremonies were Messrs C. Marsh and M. Pohio. In a cards tournament the prize-winners were Miss R. McLaughlin, Mrs J. Ballagh, and ■ Messrs K. McGill and R. McLaughlin. The hall was gaily decorated with Streamers, coloured lights, and greenery. Among the ladles present were Mesdames R. Lamble, J.
