FLOODING OF THE HEATHCOTE

to th» ninos or i'ri press. Sir, —As a very wet and muddy ratepayer of Richardson terrace, I should like to ask if the Drainage Board or local bodies in charge could do anything to keep the waters of the Heathcote river from flooding our properties? It is very hard to try to beautify your'frontage, make nice fences, lawns, etc., then in a couple of hours to see it completely under water, ruined and filthy. It makes us very disheartened. Rates have gone up, instead of down. The council should be ashamed to take rates from us poor unfortunates, seeing what we have to put up with. The beautiful McCombs memorial park should be "memorial lake.” It was last night. The terraces should be named Mudford on Slush. Could they build a weir or stone wall along the river? Perhaps some live man will come to our heln one day, and do something.—Yours, etc., A MERE WOMAN. July 1, 1938.
