The Hon. Mr Justice Northcroft left Christchurch yesterday for Dunedin and will be away until the end of next week. He will preside at sittings of the Supreme Court in Dunedin. Mr Basil Whitcombe was a passenger for the north on the steamer express last night. Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., who is under transfer to the position of senior Magistrate in Wellington, was met at a farewell gathering yesterday morning by members of the legal profession in Palmerston North. His successor, Mr H. P. Lawry, under transfer from the Wairarapa circuit, took his first sitting at Palmerston North. —Press Association.

Dr. Geoffrey Myers, who has been in London and Manchester for the last four years, will leave London soon on his return to New Zealand. Dr. Myers is the younger son of the Chief Justice, the Rt. Hon. Sir Michael Myers. The Hon. J. K. Archer, M.L.C., returned to Christchurch from the north by the steamer express yesterday morning.

Dr. H. G. Denham, who has been visiting Wellington on business associated with the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, was an arrival by yesterday morning’s steamer express from the North Island. Messrs M. J. Moodabe (governing director), R. H. Allen (secretary), and J. M. Downie (circuit manager) of Amalgamated Theatres, Ltd., accompanied by Messrs Edgar Bartleet and H. Cole, of Auckland, will arrive from the north this morning and will be guests at Warner’s Hotel

Mr T. A. Duncan, of Hunterville, and Mr James Begg, of Dunedin, have been re-elected unopposed for the two vacancies for producers’ representatives on the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board.—Press Association.
