WEATHER REPORT

OFFICIAL FORECASTS [THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON. June 29. The weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows; Light to moderate winds, with north - easterlies predominating Weather fair to fine, with moderate temperatures. Seas slight to modWEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is;—

Winds turning to north-easter-lies and freshening somewhat. Weather cloudy to overcast and rain developing. Temperatures mild. Seas slight to moderate, but later rising. DOMINION The forecast for the Dominion is:— Weather mainly fair to fine at first, but later clouding over in western and northern districts, and rain gradually developing. Temperatures moderate to mild. Yesterday’s depression is now passing away eastward, but another is approaching across the Tasman. A low pressure centre appears to be developing over the Central Tasman. Winds—Variable, with light to mod erate southerlies predominating at first but later turning in most places to northerlies or north-easterlies and freshening in northern districts. Seas (New Zealand waters) —Rough at first on the Taranaki coast; otherwise slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea —Light to moderate, but freshening north-west to northerly winds in the northern portion, and north-east to northerly in the southern. Seas slight to moderate, but rising.

CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER

The weather was overcast, with light showers of rain, in Christchurch for most of yesterday. There were occasional glints of sunshine before the sky cleared in the later afternoon. A cold wind blew from the south-west and the maximum temperature during the day was only 46.6 degrees.

At 1 o'clock this morning the sky was cloudy and an easterly wind was blowing. The temperature was 45 degrees and the barometer bad fallen to 29.76 Inches.

Meteorological observations taken at the Magnetic Observatory, Christchurch. on June 29:

IN OTHER PEACES . Auckland—The weather was fine but cloudy, with a moderate wind from the west-south-west. The maximum temperature was 60 degrees. The barometer rose until the late morning and then fell slightly, the reading at 5 p.m. being 29.82 inches. Wellington—Alter continuous rain during Tuesday night, the weather gradually improved yesterday morning and afternoon. A fine light to moderate breeze blew from the south. Temperatures were mild, the minimum on Tuesday night being 46.5 degrees and the maximum yesterday 52.7 degrees. At 3 o’clock the barometer registered 29.743 inches. Dunedin—The weather yesterday was fine but cold, with a slight breeze from the south-west, and a maximum temperature of 48 degrees. The sun shone for a time during the middle of the day. The barometer dropped to 29.78 inches.
