Three Ministers of the Crown will be in Christchurch to-day. The Minister for Finance (the Hon. W. Nash) and the Minister for' Mines (the Hon. P. C. Webb) will arrive from the North Island this morning and the Minister for Public Works (the Hon, R. Semple) is already in the city. Mr Semple and Mr Nash will spend the week-end here. Mr Nash will preach at the Avonside Anglican Church to-morrow evening and at 9.30 a.m. on Monday he _ will meet representatives of the City Council to discuss the financial aspect of the building of homes for old people. He has been invited to the luncheon of the Christchurch Businessmen’s Club, at which Professor A. H. Tocker will speak on “Capitalism, Socialism, and Communism.” On Monday evening, Mr Nash will be the principal speaker at the Canterbury Advertising Club’s annual dinner, and he will return to Wellington by air on Tuesday morning. The Hon. P. Fraser, Minister for Education, was a through passenger for the north on yesterday’s express from Dunedin, Mr Nathan Scott left for the north on Thursday to join the Awatea on a business trip to Sydney, Pastor James Crawford, who for the last 15 and a half years has been the minister of the Church of Christ, Warrington street, St. Albans, has accepted a call to the pastorate of the Church of Christ, Oamaru. Mr Crawford will commence his ministry at Oamaru on Sunday, July 3. Mr A. A. Boon returned to Christchurch from the North Island yesterday morning. He was a passenger by the steamer express.. Mr J. Epps was an arrival from the north by yesterday morning’s steamer express, Mr W. De Renzy arrived in Christchurch yesterday, travelling down from the north by the steamer express. Messrs A. L. Harrington, A. Treadwell, D. C. Niven, and H. P. Ralph were among the passengers from the north by yesterday morning’s steamer express. Mr D. Russell Rankin arrived in Christchurch yesterday morning by air from Wellington. Mr T. R. Toovey, formerly chief assistant to the general manager, will relieve Captain A. W. Pearse as representative for the Port of London Authority for Australia and New Zealand, on July 1. Captain Pearse has held the position for 16 years, and has received an illuminated address of thanks from the board for his services. Mr Edmund de Rothschild, a member of the English branch of the Rothschild family,- and Mr N.. Purcell-Fitzgerld, of Waterford, Ireland, are visiting Christchurch.
