EXPLOSIVES WORKER INJURED CLOTHES CATCH FIRE IN STREET (PEES 3 ASSOCIATION TSUOBAX.) WELLINGTON, June 24. Severe burns to the body, arms, and legs, and shock were suffered by a factory hand, C. McDonald, of Mapuia road, Miramar, when his clothes caught fire in Park road, Miramar, at about noon to-day. McDonald had been working In the Eruptite Explosives factory in Park road, and his clothes had become covered in chlorate of potash. Later he went on to the street, where a spark from a cigarette ignited his clothing. An ambulance took him to hospital. His condition was reported to-night to be unchanged..

WOMAN KNOCKED DOWN BY RAIL-CAR (PBE33 ASSOCIATION TEI.KQBAM.J HOKITIKA. June 24. The rail-car, when near Three Mile ran into a deaf mute middle-aged woman, who was crossing from a private house over the railway line to the Main road. In spite of the prompt braking of the car by the driver the woman was struck heavily, suffering serious dislocation of the right knee, a lacerated right leg, a lacerated scalp, and general bruising. She was taken to the Westland Hospital. Her condition is fair.

MAN LOSES THUMB AND TWO FINGERS While working on the property of Mr F. D. Jones, Hornby, Henry William Aker, of 42 Hawthorne road. Upper Riccarton,- well-known in trotting circles, had the misfortune to lose the thumb and two fingers of his

Anderson, of the same address, in a collision between a milk delivery van and a tram at the comer of Barbadoes street and Edgeware road about 7.30 yesterday morning. Anderson was the driver of the van, and Miss Anderson was a passenger. They were taken to the Christchurch Public Hospital by the St, John Ambulance, and were treated as out-patients.
