HOSPITAL’S WORK FOR MAY
MEDICAL SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT A total of 397 patients remained in the Christchurch Public Hospital at the end of May, the Medical Supermtendent (Dr. A. D. Nelson) reported to yesterday’s meeting of the North Canterbury Hospital Board. There were 644 patients admitted during the month, 613 discharged, and 42 died in hospital. Twenty remained in the infectious diseases hospital at the end of May. the public health committee reported. Fifteen patients were admitted during the month, and 19 discharged. The classification of the cases was: Scarlet fever, 36; erysipelas, one; whooping cough, one; diphtheria, one. For tile four weeks April 29 to May 26 tho benevolent committee assisted 306 cases. New applications in the fieriod totalled 56, and 50 cases were erminated, There were 256 cases still under tho committee’s care on May 26. All the reports were adopted.
