OFFICIAL FORECASTS [THE PRESS Special service.] WELLINGTON, June 22. The weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: South-west to southerly winds, strong: in exposed positions. Weather cold and changeable, with passing showers, and on the' ranges snow. Seas rather rough to rough. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Moderate to strong southerly to south-easterly winds. Weather fair to fine. Temperatures cold, with some frosts.. Seas moderate, with a considerable swell. DOMINION The Dominion forecast is:— Weather becoming fair to fine In western districts of the South Island, elsewhere changeable and with showers or intermittent rain, heavy at times about Cook Strait. Show on tbe ranges, and hail In places. Temperatuets cold. The last portion of a depression is passing off the central eastern area of the North Island, and pressure is rising generally under the Influence of an intense anti-cyclone, which is located over the western Tasman, and moving eastward. Winds—-South-west to southerly, moderate to strong generally, and. m places rising to gale force., • Seas (New Zealand waters) —Rather rough to rough, but moderating gradually south of Farewell Spit. Eastern Tasman Sea—Strong soumerly winds and rough seas,.but conditions slowly moderating. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER Except for a short time in the early evening, heavy rain fell in Christchurch all day yesterday and was still falling at a late hour. The rain was driven by a south-westerly wind, which Increased in force as the day advanced. The temperature was low, the maximum treading during the day being 43.8 degrees. At 1 o’clock this morning rain was falling and a moderate southwest wind was blowing. The temperature was 38 degrees. The barometer, rising, registered 30.06 ' inches.
