BOROUGH RATES AT ASHBURTON

NO INCREASE IN TOTAL SUM REQUIRED IMPROVEMENTS TO BE MADE OUT OP REVENUE The total amount of revenue required by the Ashburton Borough Council from rates this year will be about the, same as . last year, when £12,032 was collected. The purchase of a new motor-truck for use in maintaining the roads, new fire-fighting equipment, and an extensive scheme for the improvement of footpaths in the Hampstead section of the borough will be done out of revenue in the current year, and will not entail an increase in the total sum required from rates. The recent revaluation of the borough for rating purposes has resulted in an evening up of values on an equitable basis, so that a general rate of ony Is 7d in the £, compared with 2s 3d last year, will be required to yield the same total revenue from rates.

The rate for the 1938-39 year will be struck at a meeting of the Ashburton Borough Council on July 6, and rate notices will be sent out In August.
