ADMINISTRATION OF RELIEF

ORGANISATION TO HAVE A NEW NAME The depot which was controlled by the now defunct Metropolitan Relief Association in the city is to be known as the Mayor’s Social Service Centre, and the committee established by the Mayor (Mr R. M. Macfarlane) to assist him in the administration of relief will be kncwn as the Mayor’s Social Service Committee.

All those who have been invited by the Mayor to assist him as a committee have accepted office. The committee consists of Bishop Brodie (Roman Catholic Bishop of Christchurch), the Rev. P. Rtvell (Anglican City Missioned, Major V. Wood (Salvation Army), Miss M./B. Howard (chairwoman of the Mayor’s Coal and Blanket Committee), Messrs E. L. Smith (Mayor of New Brighton), J. Roberts (president of the Federation of Labour), T. W. Smith (secretary of the Tramway Union), E. Edridge, E. H. Andrews, and P. L. Broad.
