♦ MID CANTERBURY SEAT CHOICE OF NATIONALIST CANDIDATE NEW BALLOT BEING TAKEN. A fresh ballot on a new basis is being held for the selection of the National Party candidate to contest the Mid-Canterbury seat. The ballot is being taken on only two nominees— Messrs M. E. Lyons and D. Jones. At a conference at Ashburton on Saturday between Messrs Lyons and Jones, the chairman for the electorate and the chah’man of the 11 branches, the system by which the voting will be allocated was agreed to by the nominees. Voting is now being taken at the branch meetings and the result will be made known at-another .conference,, the representation at which has been determined, at Ashburton before the end of June. On a ballot originally held in the electorate, Mr Lyons was chosen to contest the Seat. An objection was made to the method of voting, and the new poll is being taken after long negotiations between headquarters and the electorate branches. Boswell has been endorsed by the National Executive of the Labour Party as a. candidate for the . Bay of Islands seat. He is headmaster of the Kawakawa District High School, and a member of the executive of the Educational Institute, and of the executive of the Kawakawa Chamber of Commerce. ROLLS TO CLOSE AT END OP MONTH (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, June 22. The Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) announces that the general rolls for the General.’ Election this year will close on June 30, and applications for registration not already in should be sent without further delay. Immediately after June 30 a start will be made with the printing of the rolls, and copies should be available for public information towards the end of July. Names received after June 30 will be placed on the supplementary roll. ■
