DINNER AND PICTURE PARTY

COLUMBA OLD GIRLS The first annual dinner party of the Christchurch branch of Columba College Old Girls’ Association was held last night at the Clarendon Hotel. It was a very pleasant party, so successful that this reunion is now certain to become the more important social gathering of the year for the very enthusiastic and loyal group of old girls of Columba. After dinner all present were the guests of the president, Mrs Lance Jewell, at a picture party. Mrs Jewell wore a green and rust finely patterned floral crepe frock with green and rust sash and a smart black taffeta coatee. She was presented by the guests with a bouquet of abutilons and freesias. Those present were Mesdames Jewell, W. A. C. McDonald, Eric Watkins, Eric Trist, Lance Stevens, Crosbie Morris, D. S. Dodds, S. P. Carey, Hallam Gresham, Eric Campbell, H. W. Thompson, G. R. P. Beadel, D. Lill, W. J. Hudson, R. de G. Robilliard, D. Wise. McCurdy, Ward, Ellis Robbins, Misses Mavis Reese, Noeline Benjamin, Joyce Cox, Lilian Johns, Kathleen Austin, Freda White, Elaine Wickenden, Betty Murdoch (Ashburton), Jessie McCormick (Ashburton), Phyllis Rainey, Jessie Chalmers, Marjorie Sharp, Enid Orr, Mavis Grieve.

STAFF TEA SUCCESSFUL PARTY AT D.I.C. A very cheery and successful party was the staff tea given by the D.I.C. in the firm’s tearoom. The manager, Mr H. C. Hassall, presented prizes to Miss East and Miss Shaw, winners of a selling competition held in conjunction with the “Better light, better sight” campaign. Items were given by Mr Robert Allison, Mr G. Blackburn, Mr J. Homer, and Mr J. Lockhart, and community singing -conducted by Mr McNair, with Mrs McNair as accompanist, was greatly enjoyed. An address was given by Mr G. Allard, Los Angeles.

ENGAGEMENT NOTICE An engagement is announced between Frederick, elder son of Mr and the late Mrs Andrew McLean, of Edgecumbe, Whakatane, and Joan, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs W. McK. Norrie, of Weston road, Christchurch.
