MEMORY OF SAMOAN ADMINISTRATOR
PROPOSAL TO ERECT MEMORIAL SIR GEORGE RICHARDSON’S WORK (Received June 17, 7.5 p.m.) . APIA, June 16. To honour the memory of MajorGeneral Sir George Richardson, former Administrator of Western Samoa, it is proposed to erect a memorial by public subscription, possibly a bronze tablet. Tributes, are paid to the benefits of his administration, including the banana industry, which he inaugurated, the hydro-electric, plant and town water supply, which he installed, also the wharf for local shipping built during'his regime. Improvements to .village water supplies, improved sanitation, and gifts O- land to necessitous villages are also mentioned as acts not forgotten by the Samoans. Sir George identified himself with the religious and social life of the people among whom he lived and worked.
