CITY ADMINISTRATION OF RELIEF
COMMITTEE CHOSEN BY MAYOR
A committee of 10 has been formed by the Mayor (Mr R. M. Macfarlane) to assist him in the administration of relief in the city. This follows the dissolution of the Metropolitan Relief Association by the unanimous vote of a general meeting of the association on Thursday. The following have been chosen by the Mayor to assist him:—Bishop Brodie (Roman Catholic Bishop of Christchurch), the Rev, P. Revell (Anglican City Missioner), Major V. Wood (Salvation Army), Miss Mabel Howard (chairwoman of the Mayor’s Coal and Blanket Fund), Messrs E. L. Smith (Mayor of New Brighton), J. Roberts (president of the Federation of Labour), T. W. Smith (secretary of the Tramway Union), E. Edridge, E. H. Andrews, and P. L. Broad. The Mayor said yesterday that other social workers could have been added to the committee, but he did not wish to have too large an organisation. Other organisations not represented would always be able to bring matters before the committee.
