INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S HOCKEY PROGRAMME FOR TO-DAV

International women’s hockey will head to-day’s programme of sports in the city. After a brief spell of bad weather, Canterbury appears to have returned to the better conditions which have favoured whiter sportsmen throughout the present season, and although frosts have prevented spbfts grounds drying this week, they are expected to be in fairly good order ? enthusiasts will need no persuasion to go to Lancaster Pa to see the Canterbury women s team oppose the powerful English touring side. The English players already haVe ShoWh their strength in New Zealand with crushing defeats of Waipa, Auckland, and Nelson. Canterbury is a very strong hockey province, and is expected to provide some of the strongest opposition the touring team will meet in matches other than tests. The match will be played on the Lancaster Park Oval, beginning at 2.45. A curtainraiser between Malvern and Ellesmere Will begin at 1.30. , , Rugby headquarters for the day have been moved to the Addington Show Grounds. The .chief game there will be between Linwood, leading team in the competition, and Old Boys, One of the joint champions of last year. The early match on the mam ground will be between Air Force, at present running second to Linwood, and the improving Sydenham team. Christchurch will meet Merivale on the No. 2 ground, and at Rugby Park University will be opposed by Athletic. Sunnyside, on its home ground, Will meet Albioh. In the Canterbury Rugby League’s senior competition to-day the chief match will be between Linwood and Addington. Linwood, the only unbeaten team, has to dispose of Addington to win the Hawkins Shield. North Beach A v. Edgeware B, Canterbury College v. Edgeware A, and Avonside V. North Beach B are the remaining matches. . Cross-country runners will hold pack rims, the last before the TakaheAkaroa relay race, which is set down for next Saturday.
