HOPE GIBBONS SHIELD RACE PAPANUI CLUB TO DEFEND TROPHY The first of the 1938 series of races for the Hope Gibbons Shield will Ibe held by the Canterbury Amateur Cycling Centre to-day, over a course of 25 miles out-ana-home from Papanui to Woodend. The first race for the H. L. Grant cup for juniors will be held over the same course and under the same conditions. A handicap race will be held in conjunction with these events., The Hope Gibbons shield la at present held by the Papanui Club, whose A team Includes three new riders. Outstanding performances have been recorded In the race for the shield In previous years, and it is expected that times will again approach re Th(f S fleid Is fairly evenly matched.
