VERDICT OF SUICIDE BY DROWNING

INQUEST INTO WOMAN’S DEATH

A verdict that she committed suicide by drowning while in a state of nervous breakdown was returned by the Coroner (Mr E. C. Levvey) at an inquest yesterday afternoon into the death of Mrs Ida Ursula Bennett, a Widow, aged 60, residing at 57 Andover street, Merlvale. The body was found floating in the Avon river near the Antigua boat sheds about 7 o’clock yesterday morning. Edward Hartley Smith, Mrs Bennett’s son-in-law, gave evidence of identification and said that Mrs Bennett was not strong physically. She had been worried. Mrs' Elizabeth Keeffe, with whom Mrs Bennett resided, corroborated the evidence about her state of health. It was stated that Mrs Bennett was at home at 5 a.m. Constable F. G. Hayward, who found the body, said that it was clothed in night attire and a coat.

The inquest was conducted by Sergeant R. Henry. ,
