RESOLUTION PASSED BY GROWERS “Do you think it would be possible by some concerted action on the part of retailers to raise slightly the price level of apples as they are in the markets at present? I know, of course, that supply and demand are the main governing factors, but I think that if a concerted effort were made throughout New Zealand the standard generally could be lifted without any detriment to the retailer, and at the same time without having any adverse effect on the public. Perhaps if you could think along these lines, it would be very helpful.” „ This letter from Mr F. Picot, Director of Internal Marketing, to the Canterbury Fruitgrowers’ Association, provoked a long discussion at the association’s monthly meeting last evening. A resolution was passed to the effect that the meeting was in agreement of standard grades of fruit being carried through to the retailer and hawker, and the secretary was directed to write to the department on these lines. -
