RELIEF FOR CHINESE STUDENTS
j . APPEAL IN CHRISTCHURCH / . There has been formed at Canterbury University College a branch of ■ a New Zealand organisation to further an appeal for funds for Chinese student relief. ' The branch has the support of bodies such as the Christchurch District Trades Council, a few business firms, the Student Christian Movement, arid many private individuals and clubs. The appeal in Christchurch is sponsored by Dr. J. Hight. ‘Schemes for raising funds include a Sunday night concert in the Civic jpseatre, a stall .in the Square, an art g Aml on, and the sale of penny pamsts. The money,, obtained will go he national funds , which are to be ;'itaftChina • as, a contribution tods the building of temporary shelters for studepts who . have been wiven inland from the war front areas ‘by the destruction "of their schools and rKT persecution.. ; Any Contributions 'fchopld be sent to Mr S. S. Amies, chairman of the Canterbury College Sub-committee for Chinese Student Relief, or to the secretary of the Students’ Association.
