EXPENDITURE DURING YEAR REPORT TO ANNUAL MEETING A residue for distribution of £21,494 Igg 10d in the accounts of the Cam terbury Patriotic Fund is announced in the annual report presented to the executive of the fund yesterday. The report stated that since the inception of the fund in September, 1914, a total of £392,516 17s 2d had been received from all sources, of which £365,830 3s 8d had been expended. This left a balance of £26,677 13s fld, from which had to be deducted the' cost' (less depreciation) of the Rannerdale Home and trust accounts, leaving the amount given as available for distribution. Presenting the report, the chairman, Mr H. Holland, said that more than had been expected had been received from the estate of Mr James Barr, It had been expected thut a sum between £IOOO and £I2OO would be available from the bequest, but during the y'ear £1362 13s 3d had been received, most of which had been applied to alterations and conveniences at the Rannerdale Home. A gift of £SO had been received from the Mayor’s Fund, and it Was hoped that this would' ba repeated. A sum of £3167 7s 3'd was paid for relief in the last year, against £3845 8s 7d in the previous year. The assistance given is classified in the report gs follows:—Sustenance 35 per cent, of total; clothing and footwear 32 per cent.; dentures and extractions 10 per cent.; medical and eyesight 6 per cent.; materials and tools of trade 3 per cent. The balance of 14 per cent, was made up by grants for funeral expenses, pent, fares, and freight, school fees and books, fares to employment and levies, confinement expenses, debts, poultry, coal and firing. The total expended during the year was £14,933 11s sd. From the National War Funds Council the fund received during the year £1592 18s for the relief of unemployment, of which £937 18s 3d was paid to the Returned Soldiers’ Association for disbursement. The report acknowledged assistance given fay kindred bodies throughout New Zealand, officers of the Pensions Department, and the secretary of the Christchurch branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association (Mr E. F. Willcox).
