Testimony to the splendid work being done by deer destruction parties was given by the Minister for Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry), if* addressing to-day the permanent members of Government parties under the supervision of Captain G. F. Terex, who are in conference at Wellington. A grand total of ?7,043 deer had been killed, 96 chamois. 16,839 goats, and 215 pigs. Of the deer 11,047 skins were recovered, and of the goats 2473. Mr Parry said that the figures showed that the Policy of intensifying the w&T on deer had been cat tied out faith* fully and vigorously. He expressed the desire that the conference should answer definitely and conclusively whether or not the campaign resulted in destroying deer Over and above the natural Breeding every year. . The Minister referred to hush preservation and conservation, and to the protection of bird life. He said the Government was convinced of the need for a national service to these ends.
