ENGLISHWOMAN’S COMPLAINT

TREATMENT BY CZECH POLICE PRO-NAZI DAUGHTER OF LORD REDESDALE (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.) (Received June 3, 12.30 p.m.) LONDON. June 2. “I’m simply furious.” said the Hon. Unity Freeman-Mitford, a daughter of Lord Redesdale, at Prague, referring to her detention and search by the Czech police on the Pfague-Carlsbad road on May ,31. . She added that a gendarme had snatched at a framed photograph of Herr Hitler which she was carrying. The frame was broken in the tussle, but she retained the picture. She was then taken to a police post where, in the presence of a woman, she was forced to undress completely, and every article of her clothing was examined. Everyone, she said, was most abusive. Her property was later returned with the exception of her camera and films. She is still under the supervision of the police, and will leave for Germany to-night. The Berlin newspapers are seizing on the incident to make an attack on Czechoslovakia. They describe the arrest as a “new act of terror.” They ask what the British nublic intends to do about another European scandal. The Hon. Unity Freeman-Mitford, is a Triend of'Herr Hitler, and she was one of the guests of honour at the annual Nazi congress at Nuremburg in 1935. In an open letter a short time before the congress to Dr. Julius Streicher’s newspaper, “Der Sturmer,” she announced herself as a “Jew-hater,” adding: “I only wish we had such a newspaper in England. The English have no notion of the Jewish danger.” In a postscript to the letter she said: “Please publish my whole name. I want everyone to know that I am a Jewhater.” The Hon. Unity Freeman-Mitford was involved in an incident at a Labour demonstration in Hyde Park last April, at which resolutions were passed condemning non-intervention in Spain. The crowd took exception to the presence of Nazi supporters and charged the Hon. Unity, who was wearing a swastika. A police cordon placed her and her malt 1 escort on board a bus. The crowd also attacked a group carrying a swastika flag. The police ' rescued the group, one of whom suffered a head injury. Mounted and foot police took an hour to clear the scene. MORE OUTBURSTS IN BERLIN ALLEGED ACTION BY CZECH SOLDIERS (Received June 3, 8.15 p.m.) LONDON, June 3. Further outbursts against Czechoslovakia have been prompted by an alleged incident on May 29, when Czech soldiers are said to have confiscated a swastika flag from a German cbuple and to have threatened them with bayonets. CALLING UP CZECH RESERVES GERMAN ALLEGATION AGAINST BRITAIN BERLIN, June 2. The official German news agency declares that the British Secret Service was responsible for the calling up of the Czech reserves during the recent crisis. It alleges that the Czech Government was informed that the secret service had information of German troop movements on the frontier, resulting in a state of alarm. 1
